Green Town Councillor promotes plastic-free initiatives

16 May 2018

After a proposal by Green Cllr Sabrina Poole and consultation with the Estates Services Group, Cirencester Town Council voted to:

  • actively seek to minimise plastic purchases and the use and sale of single-use plastic items
  • with immediate effect, actively encourage markets, events and vendors to serve food and drink (for immediate consumption) using compostable or re-usable cutlery and containers
  • prohibit the sale of food and drink (for immediate consumption) using non-compostable cutlery and containers on its land from 31st August 2018
  • support plastic-free initiatives in Cirencester.

Cllr Sabrina Poole said:

“I’m so proud of Cirencester Town Council for being open to working towards a more sustainable future. I look forward to working with other councillors to bring forward more ideas in the future."
