In the 2015 General Election, Green Party candidate, Penny Burgess, gained an amazing 4.6% of the vote (2,626 votes) in the tory stronghold of Cotswold Constituency. The Green Surge saw members soar to 115 and so it was decided that there was enough momentum to split from the Stroud & District Green Party.
The founding meeting of the Cotswold Green Party was held on 3rd October 2015 in Cirencester and after the business our Green MEP, Molly Scott Cato, gave an inspirational speech on the EU.
The Cotswold Green Party covers the same area as the Cotswold District Council - a long area covering Tetbury in the south, Cirencester, Fairford and Lechlade to the east, right up to Moreton in the Marsh in the north. Thus there are geographical challenges to overcome. Meetings have so far been held in Northleach which is fairly central and Cirencester.
